Lauretta Altman, pianist, studied at the Juilliard School of Music and with Phillip Cohen in Montreal. She has been on the faculty of Concordia University since 1975 where she has taught both piano and chamber music.
Ms. Altman was a featured soloist for several years on Radio Canada's "Recital" and has performed with the Concordia University Orchestra, the Montreal Chamber Orchestra, and the Seaway Valley Winds. She was featured on the television series "Music and You" and acted as musical consultant on the ABC movie "Choices."
As a chamber music player Ms. Altman has been active as a member of the Concordia University Players, the Forsyth Trio, and as the pianist for many of Montreal's finest musicians. In this capacity she has appeared, among other places, at Carnegie Recital Hall, The Chappell Historique de Bon Pasteur, the National Library of Canada, the National Gallery of Canada, the Haskell Opera House, Dawson College, Vanier College, McGill University, Concordia University, the Vankleek Hill "Music Alive" series, Knox Church in Ottawa, and Notre Dame Church in Montreal. With American cellist Susan Salm, she has performed at the Museo Revoltella in Trieste, Italy, the Atzenbrugger Scchubertiade in Vienna, Italy, the Kunty Moreau Art Exhibition Gallery in Brussels, Belgium, and for Musicians for Peace in New York City. With violinist Linda Rosenthal, she played in both Fairbanks and Nome, Alaska, and with violinist Yuval Waldman, at the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Altman is the founder and co-artistic director of Festival Alexandria and she has been recorded on SNE records, ATMA records, and XXI-21 records.
