Students to benefit from new OSI partnership

Music students will benefit from a mutually beneficial partnership between the Orchestre de l'Isle (OSI) and the Department of Music.

The recently signed agreement will see the contemporary compositions of students played by OSI musicians in sight-reading sessions at the Oscar Peterson Concert Hall. Music students will also be featured as guest musicians in orchestra performances around Montreal.

To mark the start of the partnership, and to kick off a fundraising campaign for a new grand piano at the concert hall, the OSI will perform in a benefit concert on January 30, 2011. Under the direction of the OSI's Cristian Gort, the performance will feature faculty members and students in a classical music program of works by Dvorak (Ouverture du Carnaval), Chopin (Piano concerto No.1) and Saint-Saens (Carnaval des Animaux).
