For the first time the Latin American Electroacoustic Music Collection is fully open to the general public. Throughout the 2010 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, from May 28 to June 4 at Concordia University, all visitors will have access to the Latin American Electroacoustic Music Collection.
Thanks to The Daniel Langlois Foundation for Art, Science and Technology
of Montreal, this is a unique opportunity of listening at Concordia to
50 years of electroacoustic music history. Anyone visiting the FOFA
Gallery of Concordia University will be able to listen to the complete
collection: 1723 electroacoustic music works composed by 390 composers
from 18 Latin American countries, between 1956 and 2007.
Latin American electroacoustic music has a long,
interesting, strong and prolific history, but it's a history that is
little known even within the region itself. Many composers born or
living in Latin America have been very active in this field, going
back as far as some 50 years in some countries, but the availability
of electroacoustic music recordings and information in Latin America
has been a problem for educators, composers, performers, researchers,
students and the general public.
When: May 28 - June 4
Where: Concordia University's FOFA Gallery foyer, 1515 Ste. Catherine St. West, Montreal
