AUGUST
EA grad Matt Waddell has been working in theatre for some time now. Along with a colleague, he just received an award for Best Production at a theatre festival in Calgary, and Matt himself won the overall award for Best Sound Treatment.
INMS grad Angela Galuppo appeared with her St. Ange Quartet, on Friday September 2, at Upstairs.
SEPTEMBER
Cathleen Gingrich (BFA and DAMPS certificate) has finished her M.Mus. at UBC, with scholarship support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). She has just returned from the Czech republic, where she sang, in Czech, the role of the witch Jezibaba in Dvorak's Rusalka. She also took the silver medal in a Concerto Competition, singing Wagner's Wesendonk Lieder. Brava, Cathleen!!
OCTOBER
Derek Orsi has opened a recording studio in east end Montreal. He has also just brought out a CD of his compositions and performances.
Charlotte Cornfield did a marathon tour of Canada over the summer, played Pop Montreal in early autumn, is touring Eastern Canada throughout the fall, and just released her first full-length album with video, "Two Horses", and launched the album at Sala Rossa on November 4th with The Youjsh and Theresa Sokryka.
Angela Galuppo had an album launch on Thursday November 24th at The Apollo Loft.
DECEMBER
Zuzana Simurdova, who just graduated from DAMPS, was the Chopin Award winner at the IBLA World Competition, Sicily, 2010. As part of her prize she did a 5-concert US tour in April 2011, including her debut recital at Carnegie Hall.
Mirko Sablich just finished an MA in composition at the U of Montreal, working with well-known Québec composer Alain Lalonde. He is currently contemplating a return to Concordia for a doctorate, while administering Marketing and Communications at the McGill Conservatory, and composing--lots.
Naman Cale is gigging regularly around town in various places, especially at Luca e Franco Italian restaurant on St-Denis. He did a 3 month gig in Morocco where he met singer Celia Larocque with whom he appears in duo regularly now in Montreal.
Chris Tauchner is the music specialist at Wilder Penfield School, the accompanist for our current JPER 220 C Jazz Choir, played the Montreal Jazz Fest last summer, and continues to play many interesting gigs in all sorts of places.
