Ravish Momin (recently Shakira's "Gypsy" percussionist) and his
experimental electro/world/jazz trio, Trio Tarana, will give a workshop
on
Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the Department of Music and a concert on
Thursday, September 16 at L'envers.
WORKSHOP
In this interactive workshop, Momin and Trio Tarana members Skye Steele and Greg Heffernan will discuss their compositional
and improvisational methods with live electronics and acoustic
instruments, MIDI mappings, and synchronization of multiple laptops.
They will also discuss their usage of Ableton LIVE in combination with
jazz improvisations, North-African, Middle-Eastern and Indian rhythmic
concepts, complex meters, real-time loops, textural constructions,
layering and DSP.

About Trio Tarana:
Formed in 2003 and led by New-York based Indian percussionist/composer
Ravish Momin, Trio Tarana features a unique instrumentation of violin,
cello, percussion, and multiple laptops and utilizes primarily
East-Asian (Indian, Japanese, Afghan), Middle Eastern, and North
African rhythms in a seamless blend of pre-composed and improvised
performance.
