Event description:Dr. Christine Beckett's
Perception, production, and parsing of Irish Jigs project was funded by the
Concordia University Seed Program.
Her research is pioneering work on listeners' responses to Irish
traditional music, an area that has been not much scrutinized by music
perception and cognition (MPC) researchers. Dr. Beckett worked with
Concordia participants in Montreal, and then validated her results in
the west of Ireland during a research leave. Two separate studies
reveal interesting new observations about how people relate to this very
popular form of traditional music.
