Lamentations
matralab would like to invite you to a screening of "Lamentations," a
new video documentation about one of their research-creation projects.
Based on the gestural analysis of video interviews with Montrealers
Displaced by War, Genocide and Human Rights Abuses, artistic director
Sandeep Bhagwati and his 4 actors Vicki Tansey, Stephanie Merulla,
Bryan James and Callahan Connor explored the non-verbal, embodied
effects of abuse and displacement. Karen Zalamea, resident videographer
at matralab, produced a video documentation of the event, enhanced by
specially shot material.
Before the film, Sandeep Bhagwati will introduce the research-creation
project "Racines Ephemeres" and the "Montreal Lifestories Project" -
both instrumental in the produyction of this short play. After the
show, the director, the filmmaker, the sound artist Navid Navab and the
actors will be available for discussion.
Lamentations is the first part of a longer event - and we would all
like to use this evening to brainstorm and discuss ideas for the other
parts that are to come. Also, any theatre professionals who would like
to help us bring this FQRSC/SSHRC funded research-creation project to
the professional stage are invited to share their insights and
evaluations.
