Admission

STEP 1 : Apply to Concordia

All NEW applicants must complete the online admissions application before proceeding to Step 2. Learn more about general admission requirements, including minimum educational qualifications, required documents, proof of language proficiency and mature student entry

If you are already a student at Concordia please review the following instructions:

  • Concordia students currently enrolled in a BFA undergraduate degree: Complete the “Internal Transfer of Program Request Form” and submit it to the Department of Music at EV-2.705. You must submit this first in order to be allowed to submit a Portfolio.
  • Concordia students currently enrolled in another faculty (e.g. Arts & Science): Go to Birk Student Service Centre (LB-185) and complete a “Degree Transfer Form”. Bring a photocopy of the form, with proof of payment, to the Music offices at EV-2.705. You must submit this first in order to be allowed to submit a Portfolio.
  • Note that if you are applying to a Minor in Electroacoustic Studies you must complete the "Internal Transfer of Program Request Form", irrespective of the faculty you currently belong to, and submit it to the department of Music at EV-2.705. You must submit this first in order to be allowed to upload your Portfolio and Information Sheet.

STEP 2  : Portfolio and Electroacoustic Information Sheet

All applicants to the Major or Minor in Electroacoustic Studies program must click on the link below to complete the Electroacoustic online admissions form, and upload their zipped portfolio materials and Electroacoustic Information Sheet. Applicants should pay particular attention to the letter of intent section regarding their interest and motivation to succeed in this program.

NOTE: there is no interview or audition for admission to this program.

Portfolio guidelines

  • Portfolios are zipped and uploaded on the Music website (see below).
  • Should show the applicant's breadth and depth of interest in the field of electroacoustics through recorded examples of sound work.
  • Upload recordings representative of your 'sound' art work with clear labeling and explanations: what hardware/software did you use? Did you record your own sounds? Was this a collaboration with other people? If so, what was your role?
  • Applicants should present electroacoustic or sonically oriented compositions/art showing their connection to the manipulation of sounds and sound object creation.
  • We look for the amount (and quality) of sound design being done, the kinds of manipulation, the creative way in which the sound is put together.
  • 2-3 works would be considered the minimum required to give us a sense of your past and current activities. The inclusion of more material might be needed to show us the wider variety of 'sound connection' you have in your background.
