NOTICE: The Diploma in Advanced Music Performance Studies program is currently suspended and therefore no new applications are being accepted.
The Diploma in Advanced Music Performance Studies is intended for the candidate who is interested in developing more concentrated and selected performance skills in an individualized program of guided study. The unique practical emphasis of the program, the high performance standards and advantages of a limited enrolment should make the diploma of interest to experienced professionals and teacher-performers as well as recent graduates. In particular, it will enable the qualified student to concentrate in, relate or combine a variety of specific areas in musical performance. These include studies in repertoire and literature; performance practices; performance theory and analysis; ensemble music and performance styles.
Classes are small and designed around special needs and interests of the students. In addition to private lessons and coaching, options include seminars and workshops that cover a wide range of technical, stylistic, analytical, pedagogical and repertoire studies.
A typical year in this program would include instrumental or vocal instruction (two hours per week), a seminar exploring areas of common concern to all performers, and a special project based on the student's interests. This project could be the preparation of a chamber music concert, working with a recording engineer to produce a digital tape or CD, conducting historical or analytical research, studying composition, or, in some cases, performing with a professional ensemble. Each student prepares a full recital performance at the end of each of the program's two years. There are regular master classes and other opportunities to work with excellent visiting musicians.
